ブライアン・セルジオ(1980年生)はフィリピンのマニラを拠点に活動するアーティストで、写真だけでなく絵画やグラフィックデザインのバックグラウンドを持つ。懺悔をするキリスト教信者の写真、ポルノ撮影の舞台裏、そしてセルジオの個人的な緊縛のセッションなど、異なる文脈にある同じタブー『快楽のために苦痛を与える行為』を組み合わせることで作られている。
ハイコントラストなモノクロ処理は、作家の色覚異常に由来している。和綴じの装丁は日本の緊縛をイメージしている。

"As I was going through my pictures, I came across a folder full of randomly selected photographs from various projects or sources that maybe discontinued, or cannot be categorized. It was all over the place piled up like dirty laundry. There are personal stuff, pictures of christian devotees practicing their penitence, behind the scenes pictures of porn shoots, and my mislabelled Kinbaku sessions.
But there is something in them, a pattern of some sort that suggests how I instinctively map my memory through pictures. Giving it a diaristic take of my transgressive personal life."
